About This Book

If you think you’ve heard everything there is to know about Charles Dickens and his Christmas, think again. This book delves into what motivated Dickens and the influences on his childhood Christmas celebrations, (which were not as jolly as you may have imagined.)

His father was continually battling creditors and trying to avoid debtors’ prison. Charles spent a miserable time working for an ink maker at the age of 12.

Surprisingly he in turn lost money and had to borrow from a friend to get ‘A Christmas Carol’ published. His own married life quickly became a mess and he worked to try and make up to his children for his marital failures by giving them quite elaborate and in some ways contrived Christmas celebrations.

This slim volume not only adds significantly to what has already been published about Dickens but would make a good stocking filler for the bibliophile in your life.

‘Charles Dickens Christmas’ is published by The History press and available through Amazon or all good booksellers.
